Common Ground Fair

We are in Maine at Jim and Mary's in Owl's Head. Yesterday, Ellen and I went to the fair. It was perfect fair weather. We met our friends, Phil and Deborah McKean at the fair and spent much of the day with them. I always love being with them and we always have a lively conversation and laugh a lot. This time, there was an element of somberness though-we are both concerned over the possibility of nuclear war. But we didn't dwell on that. What would be the point ?

We went together to watch a demo by Mary's brother Tim, of his 'cyclotiller.' He invented and built a human-powered garden cultivator. He has made and sold about eleven of them. Not a big money-maker! But very interesting to see in operation.

Tim lives in Dorchester, MA. He acknowledged the irony in packing up this machine and driving 5 hours to demo a gasless cultivator!
